Baja Thanksgiving 11-2006

The next day, Mike, Kevin, and Gary rode the famous Matomi Wash back to San Felipe to meet the girls on their way down from Jamul to the house at Punta Bufeo.  I just hung out at the house as I couldn't ride.  The Matomi Wash ride is about 110 miles long and has about 40 miles of whoops - those boys were tired after that ride and met the girls for lunch at the fish/shrimp taco restaurant in San Felipe.

Later that night, we all had dinner cooked for us by the Mexican family that owns the land where our house is located.  They have a small restaurant where you talk to them ahead of time to make reservations for dinner of your choice.  It's about a 5 minute walk from our house.  We had shrimp with butter and garlic, fried fish filet, tortillas, rice and beans, and beer to wash it all down, yummy...

The next day Kevin and Gary rode back home and we took the boat out again with some of the girls to do some fishing and sightseeing.  We went out to the same spot to troll for Yellowtail and Sierra.  The fish were biting again :)  Here is Lori with her first Yellowtail:

Here's Megan with her first Sierra:

Here's Lauren with her first Yellowtail as Amanda, Mike, and Megan look on:

After we got tired of catching fish, we took the boat north to the next island that I call Bird Shit Island - the correct name is Isla Encantada.  It is covered with nesting birds that turned the rock white:

Then we went to the next northern island called Isla Lobos.  This island also has birds, but mostly it is home to thousands of seals.  All the male seals hang out on the western most point just laying around - what a life...  The females tend the yound around the northern side, and the teenagers hang out at a different point around from the moms.  Tammy, Chelsea, Lauren, and I have been to this island before where we went swimming with the seals.  You put on snorkeling gear and swim slowly towards the island where the teenage seals hang out.  They are very playful and will come right up to your mask to look at you.  It's funny, because when they get next to you, they turn their heads just like dogs do when they hear a funny noise.  Here are some pics of the seals:

Here's Lori swimming towards the seals:

Here's a funny story.  Lori and the girls jumped in the water and swam with the seals for a little while.  Mike put on his snorkeling gear and jumped into the water to swim with the seals also.  He started towards the seals, then turned 180 degrees and made a beeline back to the boat, jumping out of the water as fast as he could.  He said it freaked him out and he couldn't do what his kids just did, lol...  Here's a pic of Mike the wussie boy before he jumped into the water:

Here's a pic of me motoring the boat back towards the beach - notice I'm always sitting in my pics..

Here's Mike relaxing with Rachael and Amanda on the boat:
