Jamul To Sturgis 08-05

We woke up to another beautiful sunny day. We went to the old downtown area of Flagstaff for breakfast. We both enjoy eating at the local diners whenever we travel, as opposed to eating at the national chain restaurants. It helps you get a better feel of the people and areas you visit. After a great breakfast, we had a leisurely 80 mile ride to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Tammy stopped to take a pic of some flowers on the way.

We parked our bike near the Bright Angel Lodge and hung out at the Grand Canyon most of the Day.

We took a hike along the canyon rim to Maricopa Point, Powell Point, and Hopi Point. If you look closely at the right side of the picture, you can see the Bright Angel Trail as it heads down into the gorge.

Tammy took a few more pics of the scenery along the trail.

We got rained on a few times during our hike. At Hopi Point, we watched this large thundercloud approach us from the other side of the canyon. We say lightening and heard the thunder echo across the canyon walls - pretty cool.

We took the bus back to Bright Angel Lodge as it looked like the thundercloud might get us real wet. We ate lunch and bought a new motorcycle sculpture for my collection. Here were a few friends outside the restaurant that people were feeding.

After lunch, we continued on the bike heading east on Hwy 64 through the park. We took a few more pics at Desert View before leaving the park.

We left the Grand Canyon in mid afternoon as we still had to ride another 120 miles to our hotel at Lake Powell. The road takes you through the Navajo Nation Indian Reservation. We stopped a few times along the way to look at the Navajo Indian craft stores. We also hit a few more rain storms on the way.

We made it to our hotel, The Lake Powell Resort at Wahweap Marina in time to check in and eat dinner before it got dark. We travelled 222 miles today.
